A Few Ways To Wear Natural Hair To Work Or An Interview.

I’m very much aware of the concern of how to wear natural hair to work or to an interview. So I’m recommending a few simple but very cute hairstyles for you all to consider:

One good way to wear your natural hair to work or an interview is the bun! Yes, I know pretty simple but also adding a twist in the front to bring some personality to it or a simple clip or flower like the one shown below. The bun style is one that will NEVER go out of style. You can wear it up, to the back, or to the side – very versatile ;)

Another hairstyle that would be good for an interview is a twist French roll. The steps are really easy! Brush your hair to the back and then start to twist it into a roll. Once you’ve managed to get all of your hair into the roll, then use a clip (or banana clip for those with more hair) to pin it down. You can even fluff it out in front to give it a tailored Mohawk look.

The two –strand twist is also a good style. You basically part your hair into big sections and then begin piecing off smaller sections to twist. Part your hair on one side so that your twist will lie according to where your part is.

Take Pride in Your Kinks!

This post is speaking to women with the coarser more tightly coiled hair type. The type of hair texture that most people do not refer to as “good hair” because it doesn’t have a loose or wavy curl pattern. A lot of us feel embarrassed and ashamed to wear our natural hair and tend to hide behind the weaves, perms, wigs, braids, etc. I’m here to encourage you to embrace your hair! You can never appreciate who you are if you can’t accept your natural self. I remember when I was transitioning to be natural I was afraid of wearing my hair in an afro because I felt like it was too nappy and it didn’t look like a hairstyle.

I would go to the Dominican hair salon and get it straightened every two weeks until I decided to be BOLD and step out! I felt like I was naked the first time I went out in public! When I went to work I was shocked that everyone loved my hair! I was so worried about looking crazy because my hair wasn’t straight that I failed to realize that I looked good with my afro ;) It was like the flood gates were open after that. My sisters, mother, and all the black women in the office decided to go natural and I was the person that they would come to for advice on hair care. Go figure!

That experience made me more confident. For the first time I really feel beautiful! Not only that, but now I have more hairstyles to choose from. I can wear my hair straight, nappy, braided, weaved, or however else I feel like. The only difference is now I no longer hide behind those hairstyles. I rock them for a minute and then go back to being happily nappy! As the Zenzele motto states “Beauty Is, Only As Natural As You Are.” So stop hiding and instead embrace your kinks.
